Three services, one client profile
We act only for legal entities that have completed onboarding. Every instruction, whichever service it uses, passes through the same AML/CTF controls.
Money transfers
Domestic and international transfers executed on the instruction of a verified business client.
- Business clients only
- Sanctions screening before every payment
- Checked against the client profile
Foreign exchange
Spot conversion that serves a real commercial payment. It is never sold as a trading or investment product.
- Linked to an underlying payment
- Spot conversion only
B2B payments
Settlement between companies, from supplier invoices to operational transfers, inside an approved contractual relationship.
- Entity to entity
- Commercial purpose on file
Controls built into every payment
As a Canadian money services business we work under the federal AML/CTF regime. Checks run when a client joins, on each transaction and at every scheduled review.
- 01
Due diligence scaled to risk
How deeply we review a client depends on its rating: standard, intermediate or enhanced.
- 02
Company and ownership checks
We confirm the company is real and identify each person who owns or controls 25 percent or more of it.
- 03
Transaction monitoring
Payments are compared with the profile agreed at onboarding. Anything out of pattern is referred to the Compliance Officer.
- 04
Risk rating
Ratings take account of geography, industry, ownership and payment behaviour, and are updated whenever those facts change.
- 05
Scheduled reviews and escalation
High-risk clients are reviewed every six months, medium-risk clients every year and low-risk clients at least once every three years.
Who answers for what
Our AML/CTF program is a written document approved by the Board, designed around Canadian law and FATF standards.
Board of Directors
Holds ultimate responsibility for strategy, regulatory compliance and the level of risk the company accepts.
Compliance Officer
Runs the program with the authority and resources it needs, signs off high-risk clients and reports straight to the Board.
Escalation routes
Alerts go to the Compliance Officer for review. Serious incidents are put before the Board without delay.
Independent review
Internal audit reports to the Board, and the effectiveness of the full program is tested at least every two years.
Aligned with FATF
Policies follow FINTRAC guidance and the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force.
A cautious approach to risk
Our controls are designed to limit operational, regulatory and reputational exposure throughout a client relationship.
Outside our limits means no
If a relationship falls outside our defined risk parameters, we do not take it on.
Risk checked at each stage
We assess risk when a client joins, when a payment is approved and throughout ongoing monitoring.
Reports filed with FINTRAC
Suspicious transaction reports and other prescribed reports are submitted whenever Canadian law requires them.
Zero tolerance
Bribery, corruption and financial crime are not accepted anywhere in the business.
Controlled channels, verified purpose
Funds move only through controlled execution channels and only for verified commercial activity, so each payment can be documented and traced from instruction to completion.
Lumen Payments is a money services business, not a bank. We carry out payment instructions for business clients and do not offer banking, stored-value or investment products.
